Yeah I second (or third) that Let the Right One In is superb, probably one of the best films I've seen in ages. I watched Solaris (the Clooney version) for the first time the other night, also a superb movie. Re Avatar I saw a 15 min preview of this at the Odeon during the Summer. Not 100% sure about it, the mix of CG and real actors looked a bit dodgy as the alien creatures looked a bit 'Disney' and jarring in the real sets. However, once it gets going the whole film looks more animated so that helps and there were some exciting action sequences...will have to wait and see I guess but I can't help but think of the disappointment of the Phantom Menace and the dreaded Ja Ja Binks!! I've never got around to watching Solaris but have heard people compare it to this years film 'Moon' staring Sam Rockwell and directed by David Bowie's son. I have seen Moon and it may lack action and budget some people but I found it to be one of the most well made and entertaining films of this year! You gotta see it. Regarding Avatar. Yeah I have heard other people give similar impressions of the preview in ref to the almost cartoon like animations and even heard the Ja Ja Binks dread remarks! Putting all that a side I think it will be a entertaining movie from James Cameron. No Aliens or Terminator of course but still a must see mainstream flick of this year. I also think Sam Worthington will be decent enough for the film. I enjoyed him in Terminator Salvation. He seems to be a bit of the man of moment as he is also staring lead in the new remake of Clash of the Titans! Looking forward to that one too. Did you see the preview in the new much hyped 3D Unkal? What did you make of it?

What did you make of it? Yeah twas the new fangled 3D. It was pretty good, but if you're one of those who gets motion sickness easily you won't like it - it was very frenetic!! I missed Moon at the movies so I'm looking fwd for the DVD release, I like 'intelligent' sci-fi as much as my gung-ho space opera action flicks. Have you seen that old 70s classic Silent Running? I've not seen it in ages (since I was a kid) but been meaning to pick it up on DVD to see if its as good as I remember...

Silent Running!! I just mentioned that film to the other half a couple of days ago, will have to find it on the net and have a watch.Great film.
Bruce Dern who is the lead in it is my favourite actor (I like the quirky kinda actors instead of the plastic Hollywood hearthrobs)

I watched Bruce Willis in Surrogates over the weekend. Can't say I can recommend the film but I did enjoy the concept and Bruce Willis always keeps my entertained. The film was all a bit "been there before" really.
As all hallow's eve is close by I was hoping to see some new scary movies but there's nothing really out that grabs my interest until the new year.
I did manager to download the screener of the newly hyped Blair Witch like film 'Paranormal Activity'. Much like The Blair Witch Project the film is all shot on one camera in a home movie/documentary point of view. Interestingly the whole movie cost something like $11.000 and was all filmed in the directors own home to save on money.
It does have some nice chills but I think it will be a bit of a love or hate film but from this months Empire mag they scored it 4 out of 5 stars so maybe a big hit for fans of the genre.
I thought it was alright and did find the ending a bit of a anticlimax but I guess the film was only ever going to go in one direction. The Screener I watched had a different ending to the one going to be shown in the Cinema. I have since seen both endings and can't make my mind up to which is the better version. I'm sure both endings will be included in the DVD release.
;D

Mr. O "Thirst" and "Triangle" are horror films that had good reviews know it's a bit past the the moment now but might be worth giving them a look.

Oh cool Biscitt. I am always up for a good Horror anytime of the year.
'Thirst'I am interested in. Comes from the same guy as 'Old Boy' which I really enjoyed. By all accounts it's up to the same standard too.

I just found out that Spielberg is remaking Old Boy with Will Smith why oh why oh why...

Oh god please tell me that's a joke! Sounds like one. Why do they bother really.
Can't see Will Smith eating a live octopus... and I think the plot twist would be a bit too extreme for Hollywood!
I think Spielberg lost it years ago to be honest.

My first reaction was no way but thinking about it this is Hollywood so anything for a few bucks. They've bastardised many great films (and tv programmes come to think of it) over the years. The Grudge, The Ring, The Wicker Man, Psycho although one of my personal favourites (or would it be unfavourite) was Get Carter starring Sly Stallone!!!!! to name but a few. Think I'll check out Thirst, I've got a few of Park Chan-Wook's films (Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Old Boy and maybe one other I can't remember off the top of my head) on DVD and I enjoyed them all.

Sorry if it sounds like I am hyping up this film but has anyone seen 'Moon'(No not bloody 'New Moon'! ;D) yet? It's out on DVD/Blu to buy/rent.
I did reccommend it to a work mate who ended up buying it and hating it! He said he felt it was "cheap and boring"! The poor fool completely missed the point.
So has anyone here watched it yet?
Don't expect big explosions or Aliens!

However I stuck with it and I have to say the story really draws you in. Wouldn't put it in my top 10 movie but Sam Rockwell does an excellent job and as he is basically the only character(s) on screen this is some achievement. 8/10
