"The boy in striped pyjamas" - a not so brutal look at the prison camp/jews of ww2. All from the perspective of a young boy who is the son of the camp commandant. Watch out for the shock twist at the end.......made my oldest daughter weep a little when she realised what was going on, and definately makes you think. Done with the view of that not all of the german people agreed with what went on (i.e the wife and the commanders mother) so makes it a good perspective to look at with a sense of realism and not over dramatised. Good viewing for a sunday afternoon when you need something gentler.

That's one I should add to my rental list. My recommendation "No Country For Old Men". All about welding.

Watched 'Pineapple Express' last night. Comedy film about a dope head and his dealer who are on the run after the dope head witnesses a murder. Some great lol moments. Not overtly pro smoking which I found refreshing.

Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino sounds really good. Think i'll catch it this week one night. Anyone seen it? Yes, really good. The cliche quote Dirty Harry at retirement is spot on. It is a black comedy though not a drama or action film. Would also recommend In Bruge, great dialogue and its set in a fairy tale town...in Belgium?

The director's cut of Zodiac was the best film I've seen in ages. It's not flashy like his (David "Fight Club" Fincher) previous serial killer film, Se7en - this is more like a 1970s procedural film: attention to detail, character driven and slow paced.

Surely there are just too many to mention. For re-watchability value though, I'd say:
- Aliens (aka Alien 2) - this is just so tautly paced and tense that I've ripped apart the sofa when watching it.
- Saving Private Ryan - pinned me down in the cinema. I reckon TV's Band of Brothers is even better though.
- Withnail and I - "Get in the back of the van!" Endless quotability!
- Stir Crazy - flippin' hilarious.
- The Empire Strikes Back - there I said it.
