I fancied watching a film last night but couldn't decide what to get out. Then I thought that the underachievers, having a good taste in games, would be the right people to ask. So, I have started this thread thinking that people can post their top 5 films for everyone else to look into if they fancy a trip to Blockbuster. I'll get the ball rolling in the hope that someone else will post too and we will soon have a library of recommendations to go through. Here are mine in no particular order.
1.) AMELIE - French film by Jean Pierre Jeunet with (bizarrely enough) excellent accordion music. Very charming and quirky. When its finished you will think everything is right with the world.
2.) REQUIEM FOR A DREAM - The polar opposite of the above. Very dark and weird in places. Exceptional direction from Darren Aronofsky (also directed Pi which is good). About addiction from TV game shows to hard drugs (but not video games)
3.) NAPOLEON DYNAMITE - Comedy is very much personal taste but I could hardly stop laughing when I saw this for the first time. Vote for Pedro. ;D ;D
4.) AKIRA - Landmark film in Japanese Anime. This is not your typical Disney fare but I think this is what animated films are all about. A must see.
5.) TRUE ROMANCE - Well written by Tarantino and well directed by Tony Scott but the standout moment for me is the dialogue between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken. Fantastic acting.
There you go. Everybody get your thinking caps on so we can get a good list going. Happy Watching.
