What... Eraserhead or Blue Velvet?? You into Jap horror movies? Check out a film called Audition... it tootles along with a fairly mundane story line and then towards the end just goes totally wierd! Very effective!

Eraserhead. Brown shorts time for lil' 8-year-old Solid.
I luuuuurve Japanese Horror. Actually, any foreign language horror really. It's just that Japanese filmmakers seem to have the better idea of what freaks us out. It's not so much the visuals as the sound that gets me. Brrrrr.

Yup agree with you there. I think its largely the way they pace their films, and often the sound track is fairly minimal... no cruddy "build-up" music etc. The original Jap version of Ring actually reminded me very much of a David Lynch movie.

Is Old Boy a Yakuza film that had a limited cinema release late last year? If it's the one I'm thinking of I really wanted to see it but never managed to go. Sounds like I missed a really good one. Talking of weird endings, has anyone seen Dead or Alive??? Now that has the wierdest ending I have EVER seen.

i gurantee you will ove it. guy is kidnapped, framed for the murder of his wife and held for 15 years with no reason why, then one day he wakes up in a suitcase on top of a building with a phone and a wallet full of cash. he has 5 days to figure out why he was held, if he does his captive will commit suicide, if he fails he will kill someone close to him. really really violent, if you liked ichi you will love this

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - And the other Dollars films
Band of Brothers & Saving Private Ryan.
The Terminator & Terminator 2
The Crow
Highlander - The original the less said about anything after the better - especially 2.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Blade Runner
LA Confidential
The Lord Of The Rings

Ok that's 10, but I could have picked so many more
