I'm with Sky Broadband and pay £10 a month for upto 16meg download speeds with no usage limit. However I do only get about 6meg on average being some distance away from the nearest exchange. I dunno what the advertised upload speed is but as mentioned before I get approx 650up. For a tenner a month I aint complaining.
Sky also are now getting to grips with the fact that gamers use Broadband and are quite helpful with things like reducing your ping (by setting your max delays to 8 apparently?!?)
Edit:- not had any problems with them so far either...touch wood

I'm interested in anyones views on Sky broadband.
What pings have you been getting and what have your xbox live experiences been like.
I'm thinking of swapping from PlusNet which has been pretty good really. Sky's quite a bit cheaper.
PLusnet up to 8mb with no limit is £21.99 Sky mid is up to 8mb with 40Gb limit and is £5.00 as i'm with Sky for the TV.
With all these things they usually sting you for a connection fee which kind of cancels out the savings for 6 months!

Hi ya Reflex, I'm on the Max package with Sky £10pm, no connection fee, no download limit and upto 16meg download speed (I dont get anywhere near that because of distance to exchange). Read on a few forums that the free wireless router they supply has caused some problems but last I heard they have now replaced that one for new users. Its in T&C's that you use the supplied router and they make difficult for you not to (however there are ways round it). However I've not had any problems with the old one. Re Ping times you can call the support line and ask them to set your "max delays to 8" which apparently reduces ping times. They intitially were pretty adament that this had no affect on gamers and made it difficult for users to get to the correct level of support technician (level 3) but have now since conceded that it does and one call should now sort it. I had really high ping times before doing the above, but now they are pretty decent, though it has reduced my d/l speed to around 5.5 - 6meg, it was approx 6.5-7.5meg before max delays were set. Upload varies from 600 to approx 650 which I find to be ok for hosting games. I use this speedtest which gives you ping times to servers all over the world www.broadbandspeedtest.net/Sorry for the waffle

What the!!??.............
"Your speed test result: 102.8 Kb"
The odd thing is it's giving me an upload speed of ~620Kb - I'm only supposed to get 256Kb max upload.
I've been having pretty crappy speeds lately but this one takes the biscuit. I'm going to be calling Tiscali tomorrow for my MAC code, I'm thinking of going with plusnet as they seem to prioritise gaming traffic which sounds good. Does anyone have experience of this isp?

I'm with plus net, can't grumble about much, it's not gone wrong, done what it says on the tin, not really had much to do since joining
They have two options on Gaming, Gaming Pro (which I have) and an account (Gold or something) where gaming traffic is prioritised, TBH for he extra £10 a month, can't say I have seen £10 worth of improvement. Only real difference is you can turn something off which should result in a better ping. (can't rem what its called) but had it turned off.
If you do go ahead and change to plus net, let me recommend you! I get £1 off my subscription..!
As I live in the sticks, maybe in a more townie area you would see a difference in Gaming and Gold account.

I'm looking at going with the Option 2 package, it's got an 8Gb download limit but to be honest I have only ever hit 7Mb once and usually am between 5 - 6Gb (don't do peer to peer etc.). This works out at £14.99 per month, which is what I'm paying currently, I did look into the Gaming Pro package but this only appears to be of real benefit if you're a PC gamer. Services such as Xbox Live so they say are easy to identify on their standard packages as priority traffic.
I'll see if I can extract the MAC code from Tiscali and when I do I'll give you a shout Maxx, I've got no problem in you doing a recommendation.

Excellent!
I got a static IP as well, asked for it, makes it easier if you need to log on remotely etc.

Well, I tried to get my MAC code today but the phone lines were jammed solid (probably only two personnel in the call centre with 50000+ calls). Will try again tomorrow, I need to do something soon as it's ruining my online gaming!
What does a static I.P. do then Maxx? And what's this remote logon malarkey?
Sorry for the questions but I'm a bit of a ignoramus when things get too techy, although I do get to grips in the end if it's something I need to know.
