having some trouble getting my pad to run with TF2. I have installed the Microsoft stuff mentioned above and adjusted the cfg files but for some reason I connot get the ' button menu thing to pop up. The EXEC something nothing at all happens when i press this and I have enabled it in the advanced settings in the keyboard menu. Anyone else had similar issues??? I really need to get it sorted as I just dont enjoy TF2 on the keyboard and mouse. got the pad working fine for L4D and Bioshock. i need a wired controller as i only have wireless with play and charge kit at the moment |

You can use a wireless pad with a PC, you just eed the USB dongle for it - it looks much the same as the ones MS ships with their wireless keyboards and mice.
Still, for the money you might as well pay a little extra for a wired pad, and have it as spare.

I didn't bother going into why the pad didn't work.
I am forcing myself to use keyboard and mouse with my PC. I'm thinking eventually I will be pressing the right keys without looking at the keyboard. Taking a bloody long time though!
On the one hand the mouse is great for shooting but on the other the keyboard requires looking at it when you have to press more abstract keys.
Difficult to call.

I use an N52 (Belkin Nostromo) with my PC - programmable keypad, with thumb buttons/D-Pad/Wheel etc, all under my fingers. I program it for every game so my keys to do things are always in exactly the same place |

I program it for every game so my keys to do things are always in exactly the same place Even on a standard keyboard, the same keys tend to do the same things. WASD for movement, E for use, R for reload, Shift for walk/run, ctrl for crouch. It does take some getting used to, but only in the same way as learning where each of a control pad's buttons are. I map reload to the side button on my mouse (mouse4) so that everything weapon related is on the mouse. |
