Just been reading the release notes for the latest nVidia Geforce drivers, which list an improvement in Vista x86 and x64 for Fallout 3 as thus.
[SLI]: Fallout3–the game crashes in some game maps when played at high resolutions (1440x900 or higher) and high settings. [500665]
As I play at 1680x1050, in SLI, perhaps this was causing my crashes...
I'll let you know as I get back into a new play through, in case it might help someone else.

I found this a real pig installing this on PC
Something about SecureRom locking it up and all the messing about with GFW Live software. Really got on my nerves in the end. Same problem when trying to install the patch.
I also geta flicker when running crossfire. Had a quick run around outside the vault, killed a few thugs, chatted to a couple of people in Megaton. Too many other ganes to play at the moment to grab my interest.
There's probably a good game under all that crap. You just have to want to find it I guess,
I played Oblivion for ages and enjoyed it. It seemed quite a rich environment and I ***kin' loved Mass Effect. Mass Effect was amazing really. I hope they do a lot more with that game.
I've gone from liking RPG's to just wanting mindless shooting again. I suppose that's what's good about games. Loads of choice.
Really enjoying racing through Half Life 2 again and had a bit of a blast on Crysis at the moment. We should try and catch up on some multiplayer stuff on the PC at some point.

Yeah I'm dusting off my keyboard lately. Never really got into multiplayer gaming, its been a very lonely pursuit for me. L4D has changed that, so I may get learning to play CS or some other thing. I did have CS on Xbox way back when, but found it lacking. Mostly due to Xbox's audience being mostly idiots. Present company excepted of course.
FO3 is a tremendous game. I was luckier than some and found no bugs at all, except that it would freeze my PC and force a hard reboot every couple of hours - but then what is quick save for?
I'll try it again, and see if the GeForce drivers have fixed my problem. I have the expension and haven't played it yet, and also wanna play more than 20 hours before completing it this time, find all these things I hear about.

Securom and other crap like that is why I prefer to buy games off Steam - no stupid installation woes

I must admit I'm coming round to that way of thinking. I wonder if the shops are realising this.
It is honestly putting me off buying the disc because it either locks up on me with the SecureRom crap or just the stupid idea of having to put the disk in to play the game.
I do like the ease of having a games library installed on my hard drive.
I just keep my eye out for the bargains as they come up. I don't want Steam to build up the accepted price of games too much. Apparently in the USA they tend to pay more for their games than here.

Amazingreflex - its not only that, but Steam allows you to install your games on any number of computers - as long as you're logged in on any given computer you can play the games. If you log on elsewhere, it logs you out much as Windows Live Messenger does.
Steam is a very powerful tool, and I'm happy that its become so strong. I didn't buy games for some time when the pound started going weak, because its dollar pricing meant you'd pay £38+ for a PC game that was £25 here. Now it sells in GBP, prices are very much comparible to retail, with all the benefits that Steam brings.
I wish I'd bought FO3 on Steam now (it was one of those that was £38 on Steam or £24 in shops at the time) because then I wouldn't have to use Games for Windows Live to play it - not a perfect piece of software, even if it does add to your gamerscore.

Is it true that the DLC is only available if you are running the disk based version i.e GFW Live exclusive? Does that mean it won't be available on Steam?

Hmmm hadn't heard that. I have the disc version as it happens, and did download the DLC via GfWL, 800 points same as on Xbox.
Back to my original comments about the geforce update - this seems to have done something. I didn't do much - just the initial bits in Vault 101 (from a new game) and tried to find my way to the new content marker (lost...) and it didn't crash.
