Hi folks,
In these credit crunchy times I've been looking at how much I spend on phone/broadband a month and I've realised it's too much. Sky are offering a package for phone & up to 8mg unlimited download for intially £10 a month rising to £20 after 6 months.
Anyone out there with Sky BB can offer a recommendation or equally a warning (I've read many mixed reviews). Is it true you can only use the router they provide? Any issues with speed/reliabilty/customer service etc.
Virgin offer a similar deal so again any of you that can offer advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance ;D

Hi Camel
I'd been thinking along similar lines for the past few days and signed up with Sky tonight after asking Sicboy and Chy if they'd had any problems with the service. It's a 12 month tie in but from what i've read, as long as you're on the LLU, all is well.
Apparently you do have to use their router otherwise you violate the terms & conditions.

I am thinking of making a saving with a sky deal..but why do you have to use their router?...must be something in it for them...IE the ability to control your access to the http://www...?

I am as Rigid says with sky for my broadband. I find the connection quality to be as good as my old BT one and as most of you will know i never have any problems hosting games. I am only on Sky's middle package which is £5 per month. It is plenty fast enough and a huge saving over BT

Thanks fellas for the responses. I have one question though (being a bit of a thicky), what is LLU and how can I tell if I'm on it?

If Sky broadband offers you the Base, Mid or Max package you're on a LLU.
Found this explanation of LLU
Local Loop Unbundling is the process where the incumbent operators (BT and Kingston in the UK) makes its local network (the copper cables that run from customers premises to the telephone exchange) available to other companies. Operators are then able to upgrade individual lines using DSL technology to offer services such as always on high speed Internet access, direct to the customer.

Hi Mark, Sorry I missed your call I was in a heated discussion with a numpty.....sorry colleague. Got your message, they have offered me a Max package so it sounds as if I'm OK as far as LLU is concerned. Looks like we'll have to keep an eye on NAT setting now though, as I don't think the Netgear router they provide offers the same advantage as our current router. Got my MAC Code from BT yesterday. God what a job that was....why do you want it? What about this? What if we did that? Where are you going? Then a 10 minute wait listening to some crappy music before giving it to me over the phone.
