In Windows XP you could assign one speaker/mic combo for voice, and another speaker set for audio, thus allowing you to chat through a headset, with the main game sound through the speakers - just like on Xbox.
However I can't find any such setting, or any information on the interweb, for Windows Vista. All I've found are playback and recording options, so you can choose ONE set of speakers/headset for ALL sounds, and one mic.
I currently have my X360 headset plugged in, and can speak through the mic, but the sound for both game and voice has to come through the headset OR the speakers, so I have it set up same as Xbox's voice through TV option. Which is annoying!
Anyone know a workaround in Vista?

Found this over on the Second Life forums - do not know if it will help, but seems to be the same issue.

Thanks mate, but its a different issue. My headset shows up just fine, and is selectable, the problem is specifically with Vista's handling of audio devices - it only lets you select ONE device for ALL sound, voice or otherwise.
Within certain software (World of Warcraft, MSN, Skype) you can select the separate devices, but Steam and some games don't have the options, which in XP you could select in the control panel.

Lol. No. DX10 all the way Plus I have 8GB RAM, so need 64 bit. Vista x64 is very stable, with drivers for lots of things now. I've read XP x64 is not very well supported.
