There's a lack of Kings of Leon on your list I can't think of any outstanding albums released this year. Some very good a la Fleet Foxes which you've mentioned. Ooh I lie! My album of the year is Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid

LOL Skyshadow, go and buy Uncut magazine that'll point you in the right direction (they have a best of 2008 review and CD this month)!
Lizzie, forgot about the Kings of Leon, I've not bought the new album yet, but did like the singles so far. Very strange that they got a no.1 single they really have found a wider audience with this release. Add it to my must by list along with Elbow as well! ;D

'Only by the Night' is good tho but i am also surprised that it has become so popular. Everybody i know seems to have it.

I'm gonna have to go with Metallica's Death Magnetic. Its the only CD I've bought in the whole of 2008. I used to buy an album every week. Music lately just doesn't inspire me like it used to, so I stick with the good old stuff I know.
It didn't come out in 2008 (1991 actually) but my best musical discovery of 2008 is Sepultura's Arise. I grew up on angry music such as their's, but being 10 at the time this came out I was a bit young, and I first got into them with the follow-up, Chaos AD (1993), which came out just about the time I realised that Michael Jackson wasn't actually THAT good. To me Arise holds much of the anger I feel at the current state of society, particularly in this dying country of ours.
Did I say too much?

Hope this isn't a topic to fall out with people but do you guys actually really "buy" music? I would say i'm a self taught downloader and can honestly say other then gifts for family i haven't spend money on music in years. It's just normal to me now. I love searching for music i have missed or just never got a copy of over the years. The bulk of my collection is old classics. Maybe this is a topic of another thread or web-site. Anyway, got my hands on the Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver albums and think they are sweet. Thanks for the suggestions!

The f3ar of pirate police is too strong. However I have started downloading album from amazon, as it's a fraction of the price of i-tunes and no DRM rubbish

I don't mind downloading the odd single here and there but would never download an album - call me old fashioned but I want a real product for that kind of money!
I don't have an album of the year as I very rarely buy anything when it first comes out - Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned (Prodigy) or Blood Mountain (Mastodon) were probably the last.
Currently into the Amon Amarth/Megadeth/Enslaved/Lamb of God etc back catalogues ;D Probably scared everyone off now lol
