I heard that the Turtle Beach gaming headphones, although well known and used by quite a lot of "serious" gamers are actually not that well made and there have been recent rumblings about the quality of them. Apparently the best ones to get are the Tritton, so I heard; this is not my endorsement you understand.

I've got a Turtle beach X1 - and have had it for >6 months. I've not had any problems with it at all - and don't understand all this "reliability" rumours. As far as I am concerned it's a quality article.
And after getting it I was really pleased. Especially on eg COD type games you can hear nearby enemy footsteps much better than normal headphones.
It's a highly recommended purchase from my perspective.
I got my set for 36.99 from Game.

so (and pardon my ignorance) these headsets are for in-game audio aswell as online communication? any ive looked at only seem to harp on about chatting to your buddies so ive always wondered what the point was!

The Turtle Beach ones like i have can be bought in shops but i was never lucky enough to find them instock anyplace. The offical source on the net is a US site... www.turtlebeach.com/products/gaming-headphones.aspxfor UK orders they direct you to... limexb.netdirector.co.uk/I am really happy with my X1's. As i'm now mainly a late night/early morning gamer they are great for keeping the noise down plus as they block out any background distractions i can now pump the sound up as loud as i want without having to listen to my 360 attemping lift-off!

I want the wireless ones, otherwise i'll just stangle myself. On the other hand, with me being a legendary scardey cat, hearing things creep about behind me, i'll probably wet myself

I'd like to know more views on the X1 headset - its in my price range, and a mate has been raving about the fidelity of their output in CoD5. I understand that they are stereo, but expand the sound using trickery to appear as full surround sound. Thing is, my X-Fi Fatal1ty sound card does that too, and I could buy a USB wireless adapter for my PC, freeing up the slot for my X-Fi, and using my very nice headphones instead... so I need opinions to help me choose
