Okay, i have a slight dilemma.
Basically, this is what i currently have
hitachi pd7200 Plasma V+ box connected via HDMI Xbox360 Elite via component Wii via composite dvd recorder via scart (for recording from V+ box)
NOW, i'm getting a HTPC next week. I am going to try and get it connected via DVI, but i don't know if that is considered "safe" for the hdcp protected stuff, (combi bluray/hddvd player) and what resolution it will dispaly.
IF, i decide to connect the HTPC via HDMI the vbox will get shunted to component
So the xbox360 will then only (as far as i can make out) have a choice of scart or composite.
I will only be playing games on it, not watching films at all.
So, on to my question (at last)
How much loss of quality on the 42" plasma will i notice if i have to connect via scart?
Also posting on AV forums, but thought i'd ask my buddies too

You will lose a great deal of quality if you run the Xbox through Scart as you will no longer have a HD output.
What about getting a VGA cable for the Xbox?
I use one with my 32" Samsung and the picture is excellent as it is still HD.

Why not get a good quality HDMI splitter box (don't know if that is the right terminology) in other words something like four HDMI inputs and one output to the TV and then select the channel on the splitter box to view on the TV. This will have no detrimental effect to your V+ box as a TV is only a monitor so if you're recording something from V+ this won't interfere. There are some good quality splitter boxes / hubs / whatever they're calledout there; I'd get an electronic switching one personally.

Yep, thats what AV forums suggested, i didn't even know they existed....just bought two of them in fact, with optical out too. www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-360-Audio-Video-Cable/dp/B000AYYADE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1220435963&sr=8-1I didn't actually buy this one, got two off ebay for £17.50 delivered. So hopefully all sorted

I use VGA on my Samsung 32", it's a definite improvement over the composite. Allegedley there is virtually no discernable difference between VGA and HDMI, however as mentioned above SCART is a big no, no, pap in fact!!

I use VGA on my Samsung 32", it's a definite improvement over the composite. Allegedley there is virtually no discernable difference between VGA and HDMI Ack I use a 42 samsung LCD series 4, with HDMi now, it used to be on the VGA and the only time I saw discernible difference between the two was when I played music on the VGA it (screen saver) would not fill the screen. There was a 1cm gap all round where as on HDMi it fill's the screen. Also if you have a TV that has the ability to work the 'black detailing' in the 360 settings on HDMi set the reference level to expanded so the 360 sends the info to the tv. (Thats what I have read on forums) Saving for my next LCD Metshaz I think were all agreed scart is a no no, Have you not considered an AV reciver to handle all you audio/video connections then one connection (HDMi) to the tv? You can pick up an outoswitching 2 Hdmi in one out (with all the usual connections) 1080p 24p AV amp from £75 (sony) granted it may not have the new HD audio codecs, but your Blueray player may have??

Hi Maxx, yes they've been suggested to me, but I can't justify anymore expense at the mo. Bank manager will have a fit
