Glad to see people still like books! I know I keep boring every book thread with this but it's a good idea www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/professormoogI prefer non-fiction stuff, I have just finished a Book about Bartholomew Roberts the greatest pirate ever! I tell you what I want to be a pirate having read that! bring back Pirate Fridays! seems that every book I read I wanna do the stuff in it... take a motorbike around the world... drive a car from Buenos Aires to New York... become a Pirate... I should stop reading this stuff LOL *Steers Moog away from the library section about mass murderers*

Correct. It's a about a drug smuggler caught in Boliva. It's not so much about the drugs, but the infamous La Paz prison. A completely different take on life in prison, prisoners have to pay and entrance fee, buy their own cells. But they can also do things like set up their own business, have family live-in with them. Tis mental. Have a link... tinyurl.com/3drxwh

Don't forget libraries too peeps use them or lose them. I love libraries. I can't go in the local library. I'm sure I owe about £3,000 from when I didn't return a book when I was younger.

If you like the Magicians Guild books, I'd recommend the Quickening trilogy (Myrren's Gift, Blood and Memory, Bridge of Souls). The author's name of Fiona McIntosh.

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy WOW what a book! Its a fairly short thriller set on the Tex/Mex border about a guy who stumbles upon a drug deal gone bad and takes a case full of money. I'll say no more about the plot but it involves the creepiest hitman you will ever read about. Read it now, then get ready for the Coen brothers' film version that's out soon which also looks awesome, the dialogue in the trailer seems to come straight from the book and the casting looks bang on. The fact that its quite a compact story means it should translate really well to the big screen without much being left out. Can't wait....

I have just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (author the The Kite Runner) Awesome, awesome book. Brough a tear to my eye on more than one occassion (which is not good when reading on the train). Whilst subject may not be instantly uplifting, I have not read such a wonderful book since...erm..The Kite Runner. This time Hosseini focusses on the female persective of the horrors of war in Afghanistan. He does it with great sensitivity whilst being brutally honest. He manages to invoke feelings for the main characters which at first I didn't think possible but halfway through suddenly you find yourself rooting for them. Whilst not as controversial as The Kite Runner, read this if you want a warm glow in your heart 5 stars from me

I like a good book. Wor lass actually wrote one. It comes under the genre of Chick lit I guess and is available on Amazon. It's called Karma by Holly H Harvey.
Personally I prefer my Star Wars or Harry Potter Books.

A completely random choice by me (I like to live dangerously). jPod, Douglas Coupland About 6 people who work for a game developer (why hello EA) and their woes of dealing with the great ideas the marketing department throw at them, who go through their day trying to do as little as possible. It's a fairly random book, with not much a gripping story, featuring said 6 people, parents who grow their own, and a Chinese ballroom dancing people smuggler amongst the cast. In between chapters, you get to see if you can spot the wrong number amongst the first 100,00 numbers of Pi, read love letters to Ronald MacDonald, and lots other geeky stuff. If you have an inner-geek, release it with this book. Have a linky tinyurl.com/2h3azf

I thought Wheel of Time were okay until about book 7 when they dropped into RJ moving armies around for 3 books and being in dire need of an editor who dared to cut the fat out of his bloated fiction.
Favourite authors:
David Gemmell (Fantasy) Tamara Siler Jones (Fantasy) C.J.Cherryh (F/SF) L.E.Modesitt jr. (F/SF) J.R.R.Tolkien (Fantasy) Stephen King (Horror) James Herbert (Horror) Bernard Cornwell (Historical Fiction)
probably many others, but those ones spring to mind first.
