 The Friend Requestor v.1
« Thread Started on Feb 8, 2007, 1:36am »

I figured it was easier to just make a new thread to put this in. Following on from my other idea for the easy friend making thing (see the previous thread), I eventually, with help of red and Lordofkaos sorted out an alternative.

So now its a far simpler thing, just a link, which can be seen in my sig. The link is the same as the one for 'sending me a friend request'. So if your not yet on my friends list, but would like to be, you can click the link and it will send me a request, simple! I figure this is a pretty useful thing to have, especially for new users looking for friends on here.

Examples

Below are 2 example codes you could use, to have the same thing. The first is just the link, which you can copy straight into your signature. All you need to change is the 'Gamertag' bit to your gamertag and change the text to whatever you want. I used the size tags for my one, but you can delete them if you want the link and text to be normal size.

Code:
[size=2][url=http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/profile/FriendsMgmt.aspx?gt=Gamertag&act=Add]Insert text here[/url][/size]

The second example is for an image as the link. You can then create your own image, upload it to imageshack, copy the 'direct image' link and paste it between the two IMG tags. Also remember to change the Gamertag text as well.

Code:
[url=http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/profile/FriendsMgmt.aspx?gt=Gamertag&act=Add][IMG]url of the image[/IMG][/url]

If your gamertag has more than one word, place a '+' between each word, without any spaces. If you have reached the word limit in your signature, or cannot fit all of the code in. Let me know as there are ways around it. Hopefully both of the codes will work, knowing my luck something will be wrong lol. However I will be around tomorrow for troubleshooting any issues which may arise.

Cheers,

Bazman

just a quick thought.... would it be possible to move the link into the left hand pane, either as an additional icon or as text below the gamer detail - to make it stand out a bit more...?

At the moment, I haven't been able to get that too work. However, I have added a code so you can use most UBBC codes in the Personal Text section (the stuff which goes under your avatar). This includes the url tags, so in theory it is possible. When I tried it, there wasn't enough room to fit the link along with the stuff I had already. It also didn't work when I used the space saving work thing mentioned above.

I could stick a post on the Proboards website, requesting a code to have an additional icon. So it also has a box in the Modify Profile bit, where you place your link. That would be useful. Ill keep testing with the Personal Text thing though, maybe that will work with v.2 lol

Update

Earlier yesterday I posted a link on the Proboards code request forum to see if I could get a code to do this. Later yesterday, I had received a reply by someone offering to help. They asked me to show them a bit of concept art, to show where I would like the image to go (picture below). So its kind of early days at the moment, but fingers crossed they will be able to sort something out. Ill keep you posted and feel free to comment on the image below.

The idea is, that the xbox 360 icon, will have the same url as that which is being used already. Like with the MSN, AIM and other icons in that section, there will be a new bit in Modify Profile where you will be able to paste in your personal url (same idea as above). Once that is done, it will show the 360 icon above the PM and Email icons. Users can then click this and send you a friend request. At least thats the basic idea lol.

Cheers,

Bazman

To further update. We could have a drop-down list so you can select an image to use to show you are using the feature. Maybe like a small FR icon or another X style icon. Or just the one I have used in the other picture.

Ok so I setup the code yesterday, which is why everyone now has a failed to load picture in their mini profile. So heres a basic guide as to how it works.

When you go into Modify Profile now, you will see an extra section inside the Instant Messenger section. There is a space for your gamertag and below that a drop-down list (which is currently blank).

All you have to do is enter your gamertag in the box (not the whole link as I previously thought). Then make a selection from the drop-down list, at the moment this is not showing the names of the images available, but this is being looked into. There are 2 seperate icon options at the moment, although I may add more or have just the one so everyone knows what it is. The drop-down has three blank options (as the image names aren't showing), if left on the first one, nothing will show (like atm), so you will have to select the middle or bottom option for it to work correctly.

Option 1 results in this being shown

Option 2 will be this image

Option 3 is the same idea, but with this image instead

Then you go to save changes and your all sorted!

At current there this isn't either On or Off, which is why everyones mini profile shows the broken image. This is also being looked into, I would remove the code for now, but it has to be in use so it can be checked.

Ill keep you posted on the progress and as always if you have any questions feel free to post them here or PM me.

Thanks Baz. Have now removed embarrassing plea for friends.

PS Can we change the Xbox icon to use a transparent background (would look a little neater). PEDANT ALERT! PEDANT ALERT! Oops set the alarm off again.

Just notice the image being used is a JPG, think only GIFs properly support transparency. Sending you one with transparency (maybe)

This is going offline temporally, due to the issue which is affecting some peoples personal text. I have left the code on here for now, but I suggest you don't re enter your details in your profile. As last time I had to go through them all and delete the offending text, to no avail it would appear.

Ill keep you posted for when it will be available again.

Cheers

I've decided to settle for using v.1. As the v.2 code didn't seem to work. Plus its more versatile and customisable than v.2 as you can use whatever you want, text or picture (or steal my idea like Scorp did!). I'll have to sort myself out a proper image now.
